The station is located in the Dessau district south of the Elbe, west of the city center. It is a through station that runs north-south. The listed reception building is located east of the tracks, from which a pedestrian tunnel with elevators leads to the platforms and provides a connection to the western exit.

On the eastern forecourt there is a tram and bus stop, as well as bicycle parking spaces. The western entrance including the forecourt was redesigned in 2010 and a P+R parking lot and additional covered bicycle parking spaces were set up.
