The height difference is the smallest on this section. In Hermeskeil, the cycle path starts at the former train station on the site of the old railway depot. The private steam locomotive museum is also housed here and has a roundhouse, signal box, a functioning turntable and track systems. More than 50 original locomotives from 1913 to 1976 are collected, restored and put on display in the former depot. Among the exhibits is the class 01 express locomotive from 1938. Note: The museum is run privately and voluntarily, opening times are very limited (Tel. 06503 1204). We continue cycling under the autobahn to Reinsfeld. Here we can rest on the "Theresienwiese" and have another look at an old locomotive right on the bike path. The path continues through a forest and meadow landscape. Shortly before Kell am See, the Saar-Hunsrück Steig premium long-distance hiking trail crosses our cycle path. Now it goes right through the climatic health resort of Kell am See past the old station building from 1889, which is now used as a culture and history workshop.
Section Kell am See - Zerf (9.4 km)
We leave Kell am See and cycle through the meadow landscape of the "Keller Mulde" nature reserve. Because of the FFH area, the cycle path is led over a farm road for a short distance. The Ruwer appears for the first time in this section and can sometimes be seen very close. Their origin is at the roaster head near Osburg. After Mandern we reach Hentern and the former Zerf train station. This is also the center of the route. The valley and the route turn around 90 degrees to the north - formerly known by the train drivers as the "Hentern hub".
