The western approach of St-Marie-da-Campan starts right in town. Follow the road Route du Col d'Aspin (who is surprised?). The first 6 km are easy to drive. This is especially good if you already have the tourmalet in your legs. At the beginning of the turns there are then gradient percentages of 6-9%. Then it gets a bit flatter again and the pass is soon reached. In the upper part of the road leads through the forest, which provides relief especially in hot weather.
