After Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa, Lake Dojran is the smallest of the three large lakes in North Macedonia. The border between the Balkans and Greece runs right in the middle.
Because excessive extraction for agriculture caused the water level to drop by 5 meters, measures were taken in 2002 by the two neighboring countries to protect this lake.
