View of Großer Inselsberg

The Große Inselsberg on the Rennsteig is 916.5 m above sea level. NHN a striking, wooded and much-visited mountain of the Thuringian Forest in the Thuringian districts of Gotha and Schmalkalden-Meiningen.
The mountain is the highest in the northwestern half of the Middle Thuringian Forest and the fourth highest (independent) mountain in Thuringia after the Großer Beerberg (982.9 m), the Schneekopf (978 m) and the Großer Finsterberg (944.1 m).
It can be easily recognized as a landmark from the north and west within a radius of around 30 to 50 kilometers.
For over 1000 years it has marked historical borders - currently between the Gotha district and the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district.(Source: Wikipedia)
