Hugofels originally formed with Rothenfels Castle, which was only 170 meters away and was built at the same time in the first half of the 13th century, as a complete complex built by the Lords of Schellenberg, which was known as Rothenfels until 1440. Only when Count Hugo XIII. von Montfort settled on the double castle around 1440, he renamed the higher castle Hugofels. Hugofels was originally a singular square residential tower with round, only slightly protruding corner reinforcements.

From the middle of the 16th century the castle fell into disrepair and is now in a desolate condition. Their remains are buried under tons of rubble and are therefore inaccessible.

On the remains of the wall of Hugofels, however, there are two exposed viewpoints, which allow a great view of the large Alpsee to the west and Immenstadt to the south-east. That's why a short detour to this place is worthwhile, even despite the lack of castle relics.

The view of the large Alpsee is wonderful, and in the middle of the ruins, which unfortunately not much has survived, is a nice place to have a snack

There isn't much to see here, except of course the Alpsee.
