The Beutenlay - around 100 hectares in size - is located on the southern outskirts of Münsingen and is one of the many characteristic pasture hills of the Münsinger Kuppenalb, which is 700 to 800 m high. The best entry points are at the Schützenhaus (next to Wolfgartenstrasse) and at the Hopfenburg hiking car park on the B465 (towards Ehingen). The Beutenlay arboretum contains over 30 different tree species. A special feature is the field flora reserve, which presents the three-field system that has been tried and tested on the Swabian Alb for centuries. The site includes a collection of shrub species, an arboretum, a spruce experimental area and numerous old beeches in an intact juniper heath that is cared for by the shepherd. Because of its botanical peculiarities and the diverse fauna, the Beutenlay was awarded the silver plant by the German Nature Conservation Association.
