Nice climb/descent on the Dutch side. Lots of traffic though so be careful!

The Vaalserberg is a hill near the Dutch village of Vaals, with a height of 322.4 metres above NAP. Near the top of the hill lies the Drielandenpunt, where the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany border each other. The top of the Vaalserberg is the highest point in the European Netherlands. Nearby are two lookout towers; on the Dutch side the Wilhelminatoren and on the Belgian side the Koning Boudewijntoren.

The burial mound Vaalserberg dates from prehistoric times, probably from the Bronze Age. Nearby, in the Vijlenerbos, lie the burial mounds Vijlenerbos and an iron smelter dating from Roman times. In earlier centuries, the Vaalserberg was also referred to as Hubertusberg.

It is best to tackle the ascent via the Kerkstraat and Viergrenzenweg, then it is the "hardest". After the descent towards Gemmenich on the main road, take a sharp right up the mountain again. Halfway up, turn left on Ravel 39 to Liège or right back to the triangle and take the ascent from the Belgian side. Regardless of which side, always think along for the other road users.
