The origins of the spectacled sheep go back to the 18th century, when Paduan and Bergamasco sheep from northern Italy were crossed into the stone sheep native to Carinthia and Slovenia. Since 1990, the spectacled sheep has been recognized as an independent breed again in Bavaria.
