Dornbirn's local mountain, located in the Bödele recreation and ski area, offers beautiful panoramic views in all directions and is easily accessible even for those with moderate fitness. It's also located in the middle of an extensive network of beautiful hiking trails.

It is part of the Bregenzerwald Mountains and is the highest peak in the Bödele range! Easily accessible from all directions: from Bödele via Fohramoos, from Kehlegg, and also from Schwarzenberg, the Lustenauer Hütte, and the Bregenzer Hütte.

        Location and surroundings.

The Hochälpelekopf forms a long, north-south ridge. At its southern end, the Gschwendtner Saddle forms the transition to the Gräsakopf and Weißenfluh, with which the Hochälpelekopf forms the Hochälpele-Weißenfluh group, while to the north, at the Losen Pass, the Geißkopf and thus the Lorena Mountains connect.

The border between Dornbirn and Schwarzenberg runs a few meters west of the summit, meaning the summit itself lies within the municipality of Schwarzenberg.

        Geology.

The Hochälpelekopf massif belongs to the northern Vorarlberg Flysch Zone and consists primarily of sandstone with interlayers of clay marl. This poorly permeable rock is also responsible for the swamp forests to the south, extending up to the Hotter Saddle.
