Why is it called “colonists”?Southern Germany was in the middle of the 18th century. a population surplus and many people emigrated to Eastern Europe, including Russia. But with the start of the Seven Years' War in 1756, this path was closed.
Here the Danish king saw his chance to populate the poorer land in the Schlewigsche Geest more densely, because at least there was peace here. So many hundreds of families came to the country and settled the region as colonists - but without any intention of seizing political power.

The Bornbarg farmThe Neu Duvenstedt colony with its 15 farms was one of the last 47 colonies founded between 1761 and 1764.
Hof Bornbarg has been owned by Diakonie since 1984 and its nature experience space, Kolonistenhof, is run by people with special needs.
