Little is known about the genesis. Around 953 a chapel was built under Brun of Cologne at this place. After the founding of Kloster Grafschaft, the chapel and the estate there belonged to the monastery. The castle in its present form dates back to the year 1295. As a builder of the residential tower Widukind is called by county. In his time, the construction of the chapel in Romanesque style. After his death lived there his widow Adelheid von Wildenberg. From this the plant has its name. Here resided at times a sideline of the noblemen. Little is known of the following centuries.

The historian Johann Suibert Seibertz became owner of the plant in 1817 [2]. In 1822 Seibertz had left remnants of the old castle tower and castle house. In 1907, the manor burned down and was replaced a year later by a new building. The Schäfer family owned the estate since 1920 and sold it in the 1980s to the Ruhrverband, which wanted to build up the Ruhr tributary Neger here. The plans have since been dropped. For a while, the castle is privately owned.

The castle is nice to look at. Unfortunately, some side windows have been closed with boards. But still nice.
