The current church was built in the 11th century by very influential families. It was undoubtedly an important place of passage. It depended on the Cluniac monastery of Sainte-Croix de Lavoûte-Chilhac. The latter is located 30 kilometers as the crow flies.It is surely to Odilon de Mercoeur, fifth abbot of Cluny that we owe its construction.
