Herzfeld is the oldest place of pilgrimage in Westphalia. Since 825 people have made pilgrimages to the tomb of St. Ida.
Pope Benedict XVI raised this church to the papal basilica Minor in 2011 by Bishop Felix of Münster.
It is also called "the white cathedral on the lip".
