The Jakobuskirche was built in the 13th century after the demolition of a smaller previous building. The most important and at the same time most valuable piece of equipment is the organ from 1715, restored in 1981 and almost in its original form, by Joh. Eberhard Dauphin from Mühlhausen.

Cycling

In 1239 the older wooden chapel, which had become too small, had to give way to a new stone church. It was consecrated to the disciple James the Elder. In 1700 the church building was enlarged, the nave was raised by a half-timbered structure. And in 1780 the narrow Romanesque windows were exchanged for tall and wide windows. The flourishing copper mining industry made Iba the largest village in what was then the Rotenburg district.

Hiking

The church is dedicated to "Saint James" and had a proud time in 1356, as it served as a pilgrimage church. People came from far away on the so-called Way of St. James and contributed to the wealth of the community with their donations. Even today, the two parts of the church can be clearly distinguished from the outside: the nave from the 13th century and the choir from the late Middle Ages. The church's current appearance was ultimately created when the two parts of the building were joined together in 1781 using a half-timbered structure.
