Historic Old Town + St. James' Church - Miltenberg 🚴‍♂️

Miltenberg's eventful history is responsible for its wonderful appearance today: magnificent half-timbered houses – the oldest dating back to 1339 – and the small medieval alleys to the left and right of the wide main street. First mentioned in 1237, the town looks back on a rich history. Viticulture, wine trade, shipping, fishing, and the timber and stone industries, along with trade and crafts, were the most important factors for its growth. The medieval townscape has been preserved to this day. Visitors recognize Miltenberg's former importance in the magnificent half-timbered buildings, such as those on the Old Market Square – better known as the "Schnatterloch" – or the "Gasthaus zum Riesen," the oldest princely inn in Germany. 🚴‍♂️

St. James's Church is the city's Catholic parish church. Neoclassical features dominate its architectural style, particularly the towers built around 1830. A church has existed since the city's founding, but it has been rebuilt and expanded several times. The strong pillars of the nave date back to the 14th century. The interior of the church contains remarkable works of art, such as the Three Kings group created around 1400 and the mighty sandstone crucifix from 1527. 🚴‍♂️
