The Grebbe Line is a waterline of approximately 60 kilometers in length, which makes use of the wet conditions in the western, lowest part of the Gelderse Vallei. It is a unique example of the construction of a waterline from the eighteenth century. Since no major interventions have taken place in the structure of the line since then, most of the line wall, the retaining quays and the earthen defenses have been preserved. This part of the line dike is located in the municipality of Leusden between the Driftakkerweg and the southern municipal border. The line is interrupted in a few places.
Description:
Earthen DEFENSE WORK, constructed in 1745 and 1746, consisting of an earthen wall, constructed as a defensive wall.
The part of the Liniedijk in the municipality of Leusden is approximately 8000 meters long. It is located between the Driftakkerweg and the border with the municipality of Woudenberg. The line dike is not under profile, but the contours of the line dike are clearly recognizable. As a result of the construction of the De Horst industrial estate and the adjacent residential area, the part of the line dike between Mosselpad and Vlietsingel has disappeared. On this part of the line dike there are three boundary posts with the inscriptions O33, O46 and O49
Valuation:
The construction is of general interest because of:
Cultural-historical values as part of the Grebbe Line, as it was constructed in six phases over a period of 200 years. Of great importance because of its memory value due to its role during the combat actions in 1939-1940.
