The Saddle Summit Trig Point

The Saddle Summit Trig Point

Recommended by 4 people

There are many fine mountain peaks that tower over Glen Shiel, though none are held in as high regard as The Saddle. This is because hikes to The Saddle traverse the wonderful ridges that radiate outwards from its centre. Most famous is the Forcan Ridge, a tantalisingly narrow and exciting arête that runs like an aerial tightrope to its twin summits.

In bad weather you should do without the Forcan Ridge!

Amongst Glen Shiel’s wealth of Munros, The Saddle is the edgiest. Its most famous feature is the Forcan Ridge, a precipitous arête that climbs the mountain narrowly and steeply up from the east. A proper mountain outing in either summer or winter, the ascent ends on twin summits linked by a ‘saddle’ shaped ridge.

Beautiful top, but very open and a lot of climbing, not for people with a fear of heights!
