Nice destination. Even a small beach is available, the toilets are clean. There are signposted hiking trails around the castle, and the Ambrosius oak and the sequoia are not to be missed.

Originally built by King Christian IV (1588-1648) and once owned by the Danish naval hero Niels Juel (1629-97), Valdemars Slot is Denmark's largest private residence and the only privately owned royal palace.Located on the island of Tåsinge, the estate is one of Denmark's most scenic spots. The area is home to a diverse range of wildlife, and public hiking trails lead through the forest and along the coast.Further detailed information can be found here:valdemarsslot.dk

The castle is located on the site of the medieval castle Kærsgård. King Christian IV partially had this demolished when he had the palace built from 1639 to 1644 for his son Valdemar Christian from his second marriage to Kirsten Munk. The remains of the castle were integrated into the new building. The castle was built in the classic Renaissance style.
