In Siefen below the stalactite cave is the Montan archaeological ground monument Goldener Trog, an old mine tunnel, which served the extraction of iron ore and in branched mining fields to the villages Hübender, Pfaffenberg and Abbenroth (municipality Nümbrecht) extended. At least since the beginning of the 19th century was mined, finally, the promotion was discontinued in 1912, because were too low ores. Later, the tunnel served for decades Wiehler water supply. The temporarily lost stone with the inscribed inscription: Goldener trough 1813 was put up again at the restored brick entrance.

Interesting that here around 1860 people have penetrated up to a kilometer in the earth to bring out iron ore. It is hard to believe in what circumstances people used to work physically.
