Before the Bavarian municipal area reform, Rummelsberg belonged to the municipality of Moosbach, since 1971 Rummelsberg has been a part of the municipality of Schwarzenbruck. Today, the townscape of Rummelsberg is mainly characterized by the Philippus Church, which stands on a hilltop. In the middle of Rummelsberg there is a castle sandstone rock, which is designated as a geotope. Rummelsberg is known beyond the regional borders for the Rummelsberger Diakonie. The "Rummelsberger" started in 1903, when the "Landesverein für Innere Mission Bayern" bought the almost dilapidated Einödhof Rummelsberg with lots of land around it. The farm probably once belonged to the estate of the castle of the Nuremberg patrician family Rummel. This castle is officially mentioned in a document for the first time in 1385, it was destroyed in the Margrave War.
