    Barrage/Weir Lock (1933) – Hirschhorn 🚴‍♂️

The Hirschhorn barrage was completed in 1933 and dams the Neckar River by an average height of 5.30 meters. With a double lock on the left bank, it enables shipping on this federal waterway. Located between the lock chambers and the overflow weir, the hydroelectric power plant building is positioned perpendicular to the direction of flow. The right lock chamber was renovated in 2005/2006 due to its poor condition. The gates, drives, and electrical equipment of the left chamber still date back to the construction period. Other structural elements of the left lock chamber are still to be replaced, and necessary reconstruction and modernization work is planned for the remaining weir. The Hirschhorn barrage is the sixth of its kind from the Rhine perspective and is one of the city's most striking structures. It is also the only facility on the Neckar River that lies entirely in Hesse. Schönbrunner/Eberbacher Straße runs over the lock system and the Neckar River, serving as a traffic connection between the town center of Hirschhorn on the right bank and the district of Ersheim on the left bank.

Wehrstraße has a single-lane road in each direction and a separate pedestrian and bicycle path on one side.
