Leuben (near Lommatzsch) was first mentioned in a document in 1069. Leuben was a burgwart in the Gau Dalemince. Such a castle warden can be considered as an outpost in the settlement of the Slavic areas. In the first mention, the place was referred to as Luvine. Leuben was also a center of church life very early on. A large number of the surrounding villages were or are parishes of Leuben. The Leubener Marienkirche is enthroned on the Kirchberg above the village. Its church tower is a landmark that can be seen from afar in all directions.
