It was created in the 13th century shortly after the founding of the city of Friborg by Duke Berthold IV in 1157 in the Bourg district. The latter was the first district of Friborg and it is thanks to the demographic growth of the city and the prosperity due to the growing craft industry (tanneries, draperies) that the city grew with the new districts of Auge and Newville.
