Bürglentor and City Wall, Fribourg

The city fortification has six towers, five gates, seven city wall sections and a large bulwark. This place is very well known for its unique panorama over the old town.

In Freiburg, seven sections of the city wall, six towers, five gates and a bulwark can be visited. The Bürglentor with the adjacent remains of the city wall with battlement forms a well-preserved and interesting part of the old city fortifications. Climbing the tower is also worthwhile because the tower offers fantastic views of the old town of Freiburg on the bend of the Saane. There are also views of the Poya Bridge in the background and the nearby Zähringer Bridge. Finally, you can look down on the Lorette Chapel near the gate.
