It is 30 hectares large, close to the Hanseatic city Breckerfeld Glörtalsperre. Since 1903-1904, the Glör stream has been dammed here in order to obtain drinking water and to regulate the water level of the Volme and Ruhr rivers. The dam of rubble is 168 m long and 32 m high.
