In the 17th century, Archbishop Gnaden (hence the name Gnadenalm) handed over the Gnadenalm to larger farms in the Taurach Valley. The Gnadenalm is a 400-hectare alpine pasture. 80 dairy cows and around 120 young cattle have always been used on it in summer. In the past, the milk was processed entirely on the mountain pasture into butter and Radstadt cheese. In the 20s and 30s, the Weissenhofhütte as Skiheim-Gnadenalm was operated by the brother of the then owner of our grandfather Rupert Habersatter as one of four accommodation options for skiing in Obertauern. Later Alois Habersatter took over the Gasthof Habersatter in Radstadt from our great-grandfather. He is the father of the very famous ski jumper Walter Habersatter, who was the world's best ski jumper in 1959. At the beginning of World War II, the alp was only used for agricultural purposes.
