There is also free camping available on top, but if you want to cook you need to bring your own food. You can eat at the restaurants but not buy food for cooking. There are also regular points along the route where you can fill your water bottle from a natural spring.

Starting from Cartisoara there are just under 30 km of pedaling uphill to Lake Balea. The last 5km of hairpin turns are a little harder
