The "ascent" to the castle is exhausting (especially if you are traveling with luggage), but the castle and the view you have from up here are worth the effort. 😉
There is also an inn in the castle, which invites you to rest and refresh yourself. A detour here is definitely worth it.

The Rudelsburg is a hilltop castle built in the 12th century above Saaleck. After it was destroyed in the Thirty Years War, it fell into disrepair. To this day it is a popular destination and a "must" for cyclists on the Saale Cycle Path.

The Rudelsburg is a hilltop castle above Saaleck in Burgenlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt. It lies about 85 meters above the south bank of the Saale on a rocky ridge of shell limestone. The castle was probably created by the bishops of Naumburg in the High Middle Ages to secure trade routes such as the Via Regia with the Saale bridge in Bad Kösen. At the first mention in 1171 it was owned by Naumburger Ministerialen (Wikipedia).
