Until the 16th century Gilsa had no own church. The village was eingepfarrt in the nearby Bischhausen. Half a century after the Reformation, Wiegand, Werner and Reinhard von and zu Gilsa donated a charter with a church in Gilsa on 30 September 1582. Since then, a member of this family has been in charge of the patron. Already 50 years after production, the first church building in the Thirty Years War - like the whole place - was a robbery of flames. The current church building was erected in 1719 as a rectangular sandstone hall with half-timbered gable.
