The municipality of Kanal ob Soči includes the entire Spodnja Soška dolina valley, the Kambreško Pogorje or Kanalski Kolovrat mountains and the western part of the Banjšice karst plateau at the transition between the Dinaric, Mediterranean and Alpine worlds. The town is adorned with an interesting Neptune fountain, and some buildings show Venetian-Slovene architectural influences. The town's pleasant appearance and picturesque location on the banks of the Soča river are today a significant tourist attraction.
