The largest fortified church in Germany is a monument of national importance. First mentioned in a document in 1410, with a floor area of approx. 75 x 75 meters it is not only Germany's largest, but also one of the most beautiful fortified churches in its unique state of preservation. With its five towers, six bastions and double ring, it is divided into several wards, more fortified than some hilltop castles and thus represents a unique gem of late medieval defense technology. The center of the castle is the Renaissance-style church of St. Michael.
