For the residents of the Gelpe farming community, as can be found on the information board at the church, a chapel “Auf dem Hülsenbusch” was probably built before 1190. In the 16th century, the Reformation took hold in this area, but the Catholic sovereign, Count Adam von Schwarzenberg at Gimborn Castle, ordered that the chapel could also be used for his denomination. The building had to be demolished in 1623 because it was in disrepair. The tower was initially retained and was included in the new building. On July 22, 1765 the church burned down. The nave was rebuilt between 1767 and 1772 and the tower was rebuilt in 1798. Master builder and carpenter Johann Christian Kleinjung received a payment of 3,000 thalers for this.
In 1818 the church was elevated to a parish church and restored in 1964/65. The Protestant parish of Hülsenbusch has existed since 1818. Wikipedeia
