A chapel was first recorded on this site in 1280, and the earlier building was probably timber framed. The present church was built in 1609.
It was damaged during the English Civil War and was refurnished and restored in 1637 by Sir Thomas Aston. A new chancel was added in 1697, and a bell turret was added during a restoration in 1862 to 1863.
It is Grade II* listed.
