In 1842, the Magdeburg entrepreneurs Wagenfuhr and Helmecke began to build up the metallurgical plant after they found bog iron. On March 6th, 1844, the first iron flowed out of the blast furnace.
The "Tangerhütte" next to the municipality of Vaethen rapidly developed into a new economic center. The company enjoyed a good reputation. The products of the "Tangerhütte" and the quality of the iron foundry were known far beyond Germany and Europe. By the beginning of the 20th century, numerous foreign representations had been set up.
