    Tips

The Góilín inlet almost splits Heir Island in two. The bridge across it was built in 1910 and links the east of the island with the western part, known as Paris. It's thought that Paris may be a corruption of 'Fish Palace' – pilchards were once pressed here for fish oil. It's worth exploring the western end of the island, particularly the scenic cliffs and views at the Dún, a headland to the far south west.
