Three enormous mountains appear isolated on the moor, as if someone had placed them there one by one. It is no coincidence: they are survivors of an ancient rock layer that ice and millions of years of erosion gradually removed. Their names still bear traces of the Nordic peoples who arrived on these coasts, and between mountains, lochs and mist, local tradition filled Assynt with stories of kelpies and legendary creatures. Seeing them like this, alone in the middle of this landscape, it is perfectly understandable why so many legends were born here.
