Directly next to the church of Sv. Ivan Krstitelj is the Gothic city gate, through which one enters the historic Borgo of Motovun. The gate is part of the medieval town fortifications and marks the transition from the lower part of the town up to the fortified old town.
Together with the small church, it forms a particularly atmospheric ensemble. Those who pass through the gate leave the Borgo behind and follow the path upwards into the narrow streets, past old stone houses and the historic walls of Motovun.
