The monument in Kołobrzeg (Kolberg) commemorates the symbolic "marriage of Poland to the sea."
This ceremony took place for the first time on February 10, 1920, after Poland regained its independence and access to the Baltic Sea. As a sign of connection, a ring was thrown into the sea.
On March 18, 1945, the ceremony was repeated after the capture of Kolberg by Polish troops. During this event, the soldiers swore their loyalty to the sea.
The monument was inaugurated on November 3, 1963, and symbolizes the close connection between Poland and the Baltic Sea.
