The Highwood River begins its course high in the Canadian Rockies and travels through the mountain valleys and past foothills and eventually joins the Bow River. The Blackfoot people called the river Ispitsi or “tall trees” because of the groves of tall cottonwood trees lining its shores. Today, the river is enjoyed by many for its nearby trails, fly-fishing and white-water rafting during the spring snow melt.
