The Eiskeller received its present form for the heyday of the estate Jersbek under his 1678 born owner Bendix von Ahlefeldt. The dairy industry, which was run by immigrant Dutch families, played a major role in the then good economy.
Behind the vestibule is the actual circular about 7 m deep egg funnel. The diameter tapers with increasing depth from about 6 m to 3.10 m. The icemaker was filled in each late winter with ice, which was obtained from the nearby Gutsteich.

One of the numerous buildings of the manor in Jersbek is the ice cellar. Used for over two centuries, it was finally no longer used after the Second World War.
The mighty thatched oak roof structure withstood the wind and weather for several decades. The last open beams then collapsed due to the strong storm in winter 1978/79. Since the local importance of the ice cellar had been recognized and recognized in the meantime, the municipality of Jersbek decided in 1979 to restore the ice cellar.
She commissioned landscape architects to prepare and raised the necessary funds. The unique structure of an ice cellar was completely restored in 1984 with the participation of numerous sponsors.
The ice cellar in Jersbek, most likely built in the years 1736/37, is still a relic from the pre-industrial era for today's environment, which is characterized by technology and especially machines.

The entrance gate down on the street looks locked - it is, but you can open it yourself. The opening lever on the left side only jams / hooks a little - with a little "wiggle" it opens and you can go up. Without an agreement, you can only view the ice cellar from the outside.
