Hiking
The Pomors were Russian traders who brought grain (especially rye flour) and wood to Northern Norway in Finnmark during the summer from the 18th to the early 20th century. In return, they acquired fish, mainly cod and pollock, from the Norwegian fishermen and the Sámi living there. This informal trade was vital for the Norwegian population, as supplies from the distant South Norway or Denmark were often insufficient. Here in Hamningberg, many of the old houses where the Pomors lived during trading times are still well-preserved witnesses of that era.
