The Magpie Falls, also known as the Scenic High Falls, are located on the Magpie River southwest of the small town of Wawa on Highway 17. Since 1989, the river has been dammed above the falls for the construction of a hydroelectric power plant. While the Magpie Falls were previously an untamed natural phenomenon that plunged about 23 meters over the rocky ledge – with a water volume depending on seasonal rainfall – a controlled amount of water now flows over the falls into the deep gorge daily.
