Friedrich von Steinberg built the Brüggen Castle in 1693 under the leadership of the architect and Wolfenbüttel court architect Herrmann Korb. Brüggen was one of the most important knights' seats in the Hildesheim region in the Middle Ages. The structure and the decorative details have Italian and Dutch influences.
