The viewpoint at Peat Mountain is located at an altitude of approx. 500 meters. The views extend as far as Lake Superior in the west and over the wooded hills in the east. To the south, at the foot of Peat Mountain, lies the upper valley of the South Old Women River with Peat Lake in the headwaters of the stream.
Here, many years ago, there was a larger lake that dried up many years ago. Large areas became a wetland where Sphagnum moss spread and deposited to form peat.
