The American route owes its name to the troops of the American army who created this route in 1917 to supply the soldiers who were fighting on the Vosges peaks.

Since then, the path has turned into a road, but it remains closed in winter because it is not cleared of snow.

The road extends over 4 kilometers, with an average gradient of 7% but above all a "wall" which has a maximum slope of 21.9%!

Very quiet way to get from the Col du Bramont up to the Route des Cretes. Small, winding lane, leads shady through oaks and coniferous forest and past beautiful raised bogs. The track has its name from the First World War, when it served as a supply route for the American troops lying there.
