WATER TREATMENT IN THE OSTFALEN TECHNOLOGY PARK
TODAY FISHING AND RECREATION PURPOSESQuarry in operation until mid-20th centuryTucked away and surrounded by shrubbery, the walker in the Ostfalen Technology Park finds a lake about the size of a soccer field. It is a former quarry in which greywacke was mined until the middle of the 20th century. The rock was mainly used in road construction as paving material. The greywacke was extracted from its naturally grown deposit. The open pit was sometimes up to 22 meters deep. After decommissioning the pit was filled with water and the quarry lake was created. Also in the area existed several small breaks, so in Ebendorf on the road to Barleben. In Ebendorf's coat of arms, two quarry walls still symbolize decades of greywacke mining. Three wavy lines represent the water with which the quarries have been filled since their decommissioning. The term greywacke was once coined by Harz miners. He is occupied since 1780. After its original locality Bad Harzburg the rock is also called Harzburgit. "Wacke" is by the way an outdated name for Wackersteine and "Grau" stands for the dark gray color of the rock.Source:google.com/amp/s/amp.volksstimme.de/nachrichten/lokal/wolmirstedt/bilder_aus_wolmirstedt/610749_Steinbruch-bis-Mitte-des-20.-Jahrhunderts-in-Betrieb.html
