Time and again, the 2.7 km long walk around the city wall offers a beautiful view of the old town, the parish church of St. Georg and the "Daniel".

Almost nothing reliable is known about the life of St. George, to whom the church in Nördlingen was consecrated, but the veneration of his person goes back a long way to early Christianity. A martyr who is equated with George is said to have lived in the third century.
Well known and widespread, however, is the legend of St. George slaying the dragon, usually he is depicted in paintings or as a statue as the conqueror of the monster.
The day of remembrance of the very popular George - he is among other things the patron saint of the English Kingdom - in the saints calendar is on April 23rd.
