A reasonably steep climb out from Haddington. First time I found myself going up this I had made the mistake of not stopping for cake in Haddington and was surprised by the ascent and had to drop right down to bottom gear to avoid blowing. Otherwise not a difficult climb although some sections touch 10%

Road cycling

Local riders often refer to it as ‘The Yak’. Absolutely no idea why. I often stop about 200 metres after it tops out, because it’s an unsung but beautiful viewpoint. Downhill from there is fast but do take care at the crossroads some 400 metres further on.
