San Gimignano is a famous medieval village located in the province of Siena, in the heart of Tuscany. World-famous as the "City of beautiful towers" or the "Manhattan of the Middle Ages", its historic center was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990 for its exceptional urban and architectural preservation.
Of the 72 original noble towers, erected by noble families in the 14th century as a symbol of wealth and power, 14 (or 13 depending on historical dating) remain intact today, giving the village its unmistakable profile visible from kilometers away.
